Yes, AI has been used. I am a solo developer with 15+ years of professional experience as a game dev. I have coded and released 7 games on IOS App store, and been a team leader. Despite this, as a solo dev, to produce a game of this complexity and polish in a sensible period of time i have used AI to assist with coding - specifically pathfinding.
